When we talk about the "Moselle," we're not just referring to the river, but an entire region with cities like Trier, Cochem, and Koblenz. However, it's the twists and turns of the Moselle between the Hunsrück and Eifel regions that shape the landscape and make the vacation area so unique. The Moselle is perfect for camping, as the slow-flowing river can have an incredibly calming effect. At the same time, the valleys and hillsides are filled with greenery, small forests, castles, and palaces, as well as plenty of space for a private camping spot with one of our welcoming hosts.
The Moselle doesn't flow directly to the Rhine between the Hunsrück and the Eifel, but winds its way through one of the oldest wine-growing regions in Germany in several loops. Sometimes, the Moselle's banks run directly alongside the road or railway tracks, and the hills rise steeply. In other places, the slope is more gentle. However, since most "traditional" campers are looking for a campsite right by the water, these spots can be quite crowded, especially during peak season. That's why on hinterland.camp, you'll find the perfect motorhome site along the Moselle if you want to camp in a natural and relaxed setting. Our hosts provide you with a patch of grass, or you can park your camper in a small wooded area with a view of the Moselle. This way, you have the ideal starting point to experience the beautiful Moselle landscape by bike, mountain bike, or on foot while hiking.
The most beautiful experience while camping along the Moselle is where you feel comfortable. Cochem and Bernkastel-Kues are among the most popular destinations along the Moselle. When it comes to attractions, you definitely shouldn't miss the old town of Bernkastel-Kues, as well as the Porta Nigra in Trier or the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers converge. If you're interested in historic buildings, you should visit the cathedral in Trier. At over 750 years old, the cathedral is the oldest bishop's church in Germany.
Of course, you can't camp directly at these Moselle attractions. Therefore, we recommend choosing a private camping spot near your favorite destinations through hinterland.camp. To be especially environmentally friendly, you can explore the attractions by bicycle.
Team Hinterland insider tip from Oli: "Have you ever climbed a vineyard? The Bremmer Calmont along the Moselle is a wine-growing site known for its extremely steep slopes. You can hike the steepest vineyard in Europe via the 'Calmont Klettersteig' (Calmont climbing trail). It's best to use the early morning hours to experience the sunrise over the Moselle. Unforgettable!"
