5 reasons for camping in Brandenburg

With almost 30,000 square kilometers of area, Brandenburg is one of the largest federal states in Germany. After Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, it is also one of the least densely populated regions. This means that during your next camping vacation here, you can discover and experience a lot of untouched nature. The best way is at a private camp site provided by our hosts.

But there's more:

  • Lakes and Water Activities: Brandenburg is known for its landscape of lakes, with more than 3,000 lakes. The Havel River also flows through the land. Camping by the water is not only possible here, but you can also engage in water sports such as swimming, canoeing, or paddling. Do you have a fishing license? Then definitely bring your fishing gear along for camping in Brandenburg!
  • National Parks and Nature Reserves: Brandenburg is home to several national parks and nature reserves. These include the Spreewald, the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, and the Uckermark Lake Nature Park. These areas offer the opportunity to observe woodpeckers, eagles, and other protected animals.
  • Biking and Hiking Trails: Brandenburg boasts a well-developed network of biking and hiking trails. The Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance bike route and the Havelland Cycle Path are popular routes.
  • Cultural Landmarks: Brandenburg also offers cultural highlights that are worth discovering. Potsdam with its Dutch Quarter, Sanssouci Palace, and gardens is a must-visit. Proximity to Berlin: Brandenburg is located in close proximity to the German capital, Berlin. If you long for the metropolis while nature camping, you can hop on the regional express train and immerse yourself in the city.

Is wild camping allowed in Brandenburg?

Indeed, according to Paragraph 49 of the Brandenburg Nature Conservation Act (BbgNatSchG), it is allowed in Brandenburg for hikers, equestrians, and waterway explorers to spend a night in the wild. However, this doesn't constitute proper camping. It doesn't mean that you're allowed to set up a motorhome or tent for multiple days of wild camping in this federal state. Additionally, land in Germany is owned by someone. If you simply camp in the forest, you risk a fine. But there's a simple solution: hinterland.camp has tamed wild camping for you, even in Brandenburg. With us, you can find camps hosted by individuals on private properties in the heart of nature, where you're welcome to set up your tent, caravan, or motorhome for several nights.
