It's really difficult to briefly mention all the highlights of camping in Baden-Württemberg. That's because your options in the "Ländle" (slang for Baden-Württemberg) are enormous. They range from camping in tents at Lake Constance, to camping in campers on private pitches in romantic valleys, to vacationing in a van in the Black Forest. Baden-Württemberg is also a perfect destination all year round: skiing in winter, cycling in spring, hiking, climbing – everything is possible. We'll show you the most beautiful private campsites in BW with our hosts.

When the name Baden-Württemberg is mentioned, the Black Forest is not far behind. However, BaWü has much more to offer. In the Rhine plain, you'll find orchards, gravel pits, vineyards, and forests waiting to be explored. On the Swabian Alb, it's not uncommon to hike through meadows and forests for a long time without encountering anyone. In the southernmost state, thanks to the unique climate, you may come across rare orchids, lizards, or even vipers. If you know your way around, the young fir forests in the Northern Black Forest are perfect for mushroom picking. And with hinterland.camp, you have the opportunity to start nature camping in Baden-Württemberg, enjoying a vacation without the usual camping site stress, staying active, or getting up close with nature.
Recommendation: Baden-Württemberg is perfect for camping with bicycles. Challenging tours with some elevation can be found in the Black Forest. In the Rhine plain, on the other hand, you can cover long distances. Plan your tour with hinterland.camp and choose top campsites from private individuals.
Team-Hinterland insider tip from Oli:
"I never thought the Rhine could be so wild. When we made a detour to the Rhine Falls from our spot in autumn, I was truly impressed by the amount of water. The best time to experience this adventure is in spring, after the snowmelt, and ideally set off in the early morning – then you'll have this spectacle almost to yourself."
If you would like to camp by a lake in Baden-Württemberg, we have the largest lake in Germany for you, the Bodensee, also known as the "Swabian Sea." What's impressive is that the water quality in Lake Constance is so high that you can practically drink from it directly. It goes without saying that if you want to surf, sail, or kite, you should set up your tent here.
However, Baden-Württemberg offers many other bodies of water where you can camp nearby. In the southern Black Forest, there are the Titisee and Schluchsee, perfect for water sports. The Blautopf, a deep blue water spring near Blaubeuren, has a mystical atmosphere and is unique in southern Germany.
Our recommendation: Along the Rhine, there are many areas where sand and gravel are extracted, leading to the creation of large gravel pits with perfect conditions for sunbathing or refreshing swims. Before your arrival, check if there are any opportunities for refreshing dips nearby during summertime.
"The Länd" is rich in culture, nature, and offers a very diverse landscape. Here are a few tips:
Just take a look at the map here on hinterland.camp - it will show you the most beautiful private camping sites in Baden-Württemberg.
The Black Forest offers some higher peaks such as Feldberg, Belchen, Kandel, and Hornisgrinde. Around these mountains, there are more summits waiting to be explored on foot or by mountain bike. The beauty of it all: Especially in the South Black Forest, there are numerous farms located in the valleys beneath the mountains and on vast meadows, offering a truly special camping experience. You will live in sync with the cows and animals on the farms and can immerse yourself in nature in a whole new way.
In the valleys around Freiburg or on the edge of the Black Forest, you'll often find orchards shaping the landscape. Wouldn't you like to camp with your family or friends on one of these meadows? Take a look here to find the hosts in Baden-Württemberg who are looking forward to welcoming you!
Wild camping without permission is not allowed in Germany. In reality, the land always belongs to someone and never to the general public. However, with hinterland.camp, you can legally park or camp with a wild camping feeling because our hosts are private individuals who offer you a meadow or a pitch for your van, motorhome, or tent.
