What makes Italy one of the most popular destinations for campers?
From the beautiful Amalfi Coast to historic cities such as Rome, Venice or Milan and the breathtaking fishing villages of Cinque Terre, Italy not only offers unique landscapes, but also many opportunities to experience culture, take city trips and explore very special places. The culinary delights are also tempting with delicious regional wine, pizza with a wafer-thin base, homemade pasta and aromatic olive oil. And the best thing? There are countless campsites in the middle of nature and away from the crowds. Because with such a popular destination, you can't avoid overcrowded hot spots. From the campsites, you can set off on long hikes through the impressive mountain landscapes, long walks by the sea or action-packed canoe tours.
What makes the campsites real insider tips?
Our idea behind campsites on private land is to reduce camping back to the essentials: a time-out in nature. That's why we have a maximum of three pitches on each site - so it stays quiet, personal and close to nature. Before a camp is shown as bookable on the platform, we check its location in the countryside to ensure that it remains a real insider tip. You won't find any overcrowded pitches and tightly packed plots with us. Instead, you can expect spacious pitches surrounded by nature, friendly hosts and a relaxed, informal atmosphere - just the way camping should be.
The most beautiful campsites by the sea in Italy
With its very special location and famous boot shape, Italy is almost completely surrounded by the sea. The coasts are characterized by wide sandy beaches with turquoise water, breathtaking rock formations and colourful towns where you are sure to come across a Vespa or two. A vacation by the sea in Italy is definitely worthwhile - especially with a camper. Not only are there beautiful promenades where you can enjoy a freshly baked pizza with a view of the sunset, but also untouched nature away from the well-known places - perfect for hikes and lots of outdoor activities! Imagine waking up in the morning on a campsite with no more than two neighbors, feeling the sun on your face and enjoying your first coffee with a view of the sea. Then you slowly get ready for the day, pack a watermelon, a board and a knife - not forgetting the beach blanket and sun cream of course - and off you go to the beach. Forgot your water bottle? No problem, your pitch is right next door. And that's exactly what camping by the sea in Italy feels like. Here are our campsite recommendations for an unforgettable vacation on the Italian coast:
Campsite in the middle of an olive grove by the sea in Apulia

What awaits you:
In the middle of the beautiful Gargano National Park, near Sannicandro Garganico, lies this special campsite run by host Patrizia. Here you camp in an idyllic olive grove, just 900 meters from the sea - with a fantastic view of the Tremiti Islands.
The camp is part of a sustainable permaculture project and offers not only nature, but also lovingly designed facilities: a compost toilet, hot and cold showers, a sauna and even a wood-burning stove. If you like, you can treat yourself to delicious vegan meals.
You can look forward to a relaxing stay with plenty of freedom - campfires are allowed, dogs are welcome and there is electricity, water and cell phone reception. On site you will also find a small farm store, a playground, bike rental and even a washing machine.
Whether you want to go hiking, relax on the beach, go mountain biking or watch wildlife - the surrounding area offers countless opportunities for outdoor adventures.
The campsite costs per night 24€ (Price per night & spot)
5-star campsite in the Cilento National Park

What awaits you:
In the Cilento National Park, between the hills and the sea, lies the cozy farm of Edmondo, Luigia and Simona. Here you can set up camp under shady trees or park your camper right next to the stream - in the middle of nature and wonderfully relaxed.
The farm has everything you need for a pleasant stay: electricity, water, Wi-Fi in the communal areas, clean sanitary facilities and even a pool for cooling off on hot days. A real highlight is the in-house restaurant, where you can enjoy delicious home-cooked meals - from breakfast to dinner - if you order in advance.
While the kids let off steam in the playground, you can explore the area on foot or by bike. There are even wine tastings and other small activities.
The campsite costs per night 36€ (Price per night & spot)
Idyllic campsite in Sicily

In the heart of Sicily, near the village of Alia, lies an idyllic eco-campsite run by host Valentina. Here you camp at an altitude of 700 meters, surrounded by a centuries-old pine forest.
The campsite offers everything you need for a relaxing stay: electricity, water, Wi-Fi, clean sanitary facilities and even a sauna and pool (both for a fee). A small farm store provides you with seasonal produce from its own organic farm, and you can also have a meal cooked for you on request.
Children will love the playground with tree house and swings, while you explore the surrounding area on foot or by bike. With only a few pitches, it remains pleasantly quiet.
The campsite costs per night 62€ (Price per night & spot)
Campsite in Roseto Capo Spulico

Just a 15-minute walk from the sea, on a hill with spectacular views, host Mattia offers an idyllic campsite surrounded by fragrant rosemary and thyme.
The campsite offers a peaceful and natural atmosphere, ideal for those who want to go hiking, cycling or simply enjoy the beach. You'll find basic facilities here with a compost toilet, a shared electricity connection and the option to barbecue. If you wish, you can learn more about essential oil distillation and take home a unique product as a souvenir.
The campsite costs per night 16€ (Price per night & spot)
Camping with dogs in Italy - interesting facts and dog-friendly campsites
Italy is a highly recommended destination for a camping vacation with a dog. The varied landscape offers great opportunities for long and exciting walks - whether on the beach, in the mountains or along the olive groves. In rural areas, however, it can be helpful to know that dogs often play a different role in Italy than in Germany. They are often kept as farm animals, usually live outside and serve as guard or herding dogs for free-roaming herds. Even if there are a few stray dogs, the problem is less pronounced compared to countries such as Romania, Morocco or Turkey. Your camping vacation won't usually be affected by this, but don't be surprised if you come across a free-roaming dog that appears to be without an owner - it's most likely just going about its business as a herding dog ;) When looking for the right campsite for your trip to Italy with a dog, you can simply use the "Dogs welcome" filter and only see campsites that are perfect for you and your fluffy friend. We have also selected the highlight campsites where you have great conditions for great excursions and walks or exploration tours in the area. Find the best campsites for camping with your dog in Italy!
