A beautiful lake and a great place to relax with the family. We always love coming back here. The water is clear, and the surroundings invite you to linger. A small request to all visitors: Please take your trash with you when you leave. Unfortunately, we end up collecting one or even two bags of trash on almost every visit. It would be great if this beautiful place could remain clean and well-maintained for everyone. Thank you very much, and see you next time!

A beautiful, quiet spot—since the bridge to Rudophstein has been closed for years, hardly any cars pass through. During the GDR era, this parking area was in the border zone. The terrain here slopes steeply uphill and downhill, which older visitors or dog owners with older dogs should keep in mind. The site is lovingly maintained by the villagers, which is why I think it’s a shame that not a single cent of the parking fees goes to the community.

A very nice place. But unfortunately, other people left their trash there.

  • The spot right above the lake is very beautiful, though it does tend to attract swimmers and the occasional wild camper. But the night was quiet, the morning swim in the lake was fantastic, and Daniel’s hospitality was outstanding. So—we’d love to come back :-)

The lake is simply amazing—pure relaxation, crystal-clear water, and a guaranteed way to cool off. A dreamlike setting. The hosts are attentive and friendly.

The campsite is great. A direct view of the lake and access to the water! And they really care—Jan came right over to check that everything was okay. It always comes down to the people. Thank you. Everything was perfect for us.

Very quick responses and friendly service. Great spot! But be aware: it’s listed as free on a certain app.

A nice spot on the lawn or under the trees. 19 euros might be a bit much.

Beautiful spot, amazing view You’re not alone in the cove, though—there aren’t any signs yet. The spot is also well-known among locals, so many people come here to swim. Cars and RVs are parked all along the road and are apparently tolerated even at night. The road was very noisy during the day on Pentecost weekend, especially with motorcyclists “really revving it up.” It’s quiet starting around 8 p.m.

The booking process was straightforward, and whenever we had questions, we received a quick and friendly response. We’ve been coming to the reservoir for many, many years (my husband for 30 years, and I for 7). There were many times when we arrived on Friday and brought extra trash bags to collect trash. That wasn’t the case this time, and we hope that the new system with checks and reservations will resolve this issue. We also remind every visitor to take their trash with them, because we’re glad to have this option nearby—we’re there every weekend and want to keep it that way. Best regards, Sascha and Lisa

We spent two wonderful days at the "Thuringian Sea." The campsite was just as described. The view was breathtaking, and being the only ones there made it extra special. Unfortunately, the road in the background was quite busy (it was Pentecost). But it was very quiet at night. We would definitely come back. Communication was excellent and very friendly. We highly recommend this campsite.

The host was super friendly! You can start hiking right away—it’s a beautiful area. There’s a parent-child home next door and a hiking trail, so people come by from time to time (which was fine with us). Unfortunately, the trash cans were overflowing, so we took all of ours with us. We’d definitely come back for a night 💚

Spectacular views with lovely spots to soak up the sun. The site has a special sense of openness and atmosphere. Unfortunately, the shelter was littered with trash, and we couldn’t use it because of the sardine cans left behind. That was a shame, but it didn’t completely spoil our impression of the beautiful site. Overall, a campsite with a great view and lots of potential.

We really liked the spot at the Waldbühne. It’s very quiet, high above the town of Ziegenrück.

Spent another weekend at the Thuringian Sea. The panoramic view is and always will be simply unbeatable—a 10/10 in my book😍 Still, I was ridiculously rude A girl was there before me and just wanted to enjoy the view, but I told her to leave🫣 “because I BOOKED the spot,” even though there was plenty of room for both of us That wasn’t okay☝️ My appeal to you: * Do better: Be nice to each other, share these beautiful places, and let everyone have their own little spot of freedom. * Keep it clean: Make sure to take your trash with you! Enjoy your time and show respect for people and nature. 🌲🌊

Stunning views – pure nature! A truly wonderful campsite. Although it’s located right next to a road, there’s very little traffic, and in my opinion, it doesn’t detract from the idyllic setting at all. The spectacular views definitely make up for the simple location! Self-sufficiency required: There are no services whatsoever (no water, no electricity, no waste disposal). So you have to be completely self-sufficient. Cleanliness: Please make sure to keep this beautiful spot clean and take your trash with you so that it remains accessible to all of us!

We had chosen this site to test our new motorhome. It even exceeded our expectations. An absolutely quiet pitch directly on the Saale (which our dog was very happy about) Highly recommended at any time!

Our first vacation in Ziegenrück - pure nature and absolute relaxation Our first vacation in Ziegenrück, booked through Hinderland, was simply fantastic. The communication with our contact person Daniel was excellent right from the start - warm, fast and uncomplicated. The site was beautifully situated in the middle of nature, ideal for relaxing and perfect for a vacation with dogs. There is a particularly interesting hike directly along the Saale: green, lush meadows, quiet spots to linger and the highlight, the Reißerstruh viewpoint - an absolute must for all hiking enthusiasts. Our dogs were able to swim in the Saale and everything else was designed to slow down and experience nature. Another highlight was the Café zur Wasserziege with delicious food, a relaxed atmosphere and even live music. Also exciting: a visit to the Ziegenrück hydroelectric power station, which offered interesting insights. The whole region is not overcrowded, the people are open and friendly, the food is delicious - in short: a perfect vacation destination for anyone looking for peace, nature and genuine hospitality. We will definitely be back! Best regards Claudia, Sven, Tosha and Michelle 🥰
