Right on the banks of the Werra River, which once served as a border, we offer you an idyllic campsite.

Our campsite features a fire pit, direct access to the water, and plenty of nature—including ticks, mosquitoes, croaking frogs, and the song of the nightingale.

Across the river, behind the trees, is a state highway. It’s very quiet at night, but traffic increases in the morning hours on weekdays.

The Werra is an ideal river for water excursions by canoe or SUP; additionally, the Werra Bike Path and the Green Belt hiking trail run alongside our property. A bus stop is 100 meters away.

If you’d like, you can also swim in the Werra; we have a small set of steps on the bank to help you get into the cool water.

The inner-German border ran through here over 30 years ago. History within reach ;-) The House on the Border, the Unity Bridge, and the Border Museum in the former border tower are all within easy walking distance.

Additionally, the surrounding area offers:

- many hiking trails & small hills (the northern Kuppenrhön)

- two swimming pools (2 km each)

- indoor tennis court (2 km)

- bike park (approx. 15 km)

- Canoe rentals (15 km)

- Bike paths

- Museums (Border Museum, Local History Museum, Mining Museum, visitor mine, etc.)

- Fishing license sales

Our house and just a few neighbors are within sight of the campsite. Our cat Ogel (all black) will surely come visit you sometime, and the neighbors have cats too.

We welcome all nature-loving campers and van lifers who want to enjoy the campsite with its view and leave the area clean.

Additionally, you should be self-sufficient, your vehicle should not be longer than 6.50 m or weigh more than 3.5 t, and you should be able to back up approximately 50 m, as turning around on the site is difficult.

Check-in is available starting at 3:00 PM, and check-out should be by 1:00 PM, depending on whether we have subsequent bookings.

From October through May, the site is only available for 4x4 vehicles.

The site is too small for trailers and RVs. No tents.

Children and pets are included in the price; please indicate this when booking.

We had a wonderful time at the campground on the Werra; we saw beavers, a family of ducks, and other animals. Jana and Dirk are very kind hosts and gave us a warm welcome.
