To call this place “without much luxury” is a serious understatement. This is a filthy setup located in the middle of a residential neighborhood — there is nothing “Hinterland” about it. It can hardly be called accommodation. Everything you touch feels unclean. The structures — two makeshift huts in a backyard — are in a state of disrepair. The so-called “treehouse” appears to have originally been a children’s play structure and is now being offered as a sleeping space, without any ventilation or emergency exits. It’s a dangerously unsafe situation: loose boards, exposed screws, and a mattress only accessible via an unstable ladder through two extremely narrow openings. The listing mentions a “bathroom,” but that’s misleading. There is no shower. There’s a loosely connected tap that draws remnants of old water from a small 5-liter tank, and the sink drains into a tiny container already filled with foul, brownish-black wastewater. Completely unusable. As for the camping toilet — you are expected to empty it yourself into the host’s private toilet and rinse it in their personal shower!! Just imagine how unhygienic that task is. And if you wanted to shower, that would be the same place you’d have to use. This entire setup is a major disappointment. The only reason I stayed for two of the three nights I booked was because I was too exhausted from cycling to find an alternative. I ended up sleeping on my own mat on the floor of the second hut/shed, where — contrary to the listing — there was no refrigerator. With temperatures around 30°C, that was far from ideal. The host seemed to find all of this completely normal. Given how they live, I wasn’t surprised — it’s their home after all — but guests should at least be informed of what to expect. On a positive note, they did offer me a beer. Other than that, they appeared fully occupied with themselves and, without proper consultation, decided to resume restoration work on their camper van parked right next to my sleeping space — on a Sunday morning when I was trying to rest — no regard for guest privacy. When I asked for a partial refund, I was met with defensiveness instead of concern. I left early. This place is misrepresented, unsanitary, and unsafe. Hinterland should seriously reassess whether this listing belongs on their platform.
We were warmly welcomed as a family. We asked beforehand if we could come with 4 people. We were able to divide our sleeping places. An extra mattress made it even more comfortable. The hosts took the time for us. The accommodation was clean and the Baumhutte was of course unique.
Very friendly and helpful hosts. A great two-story tree house, which isb. the children liked well. Very quiet location, quickly on the Weser. Many possibilities for great excursions in the surrounding area.
