On a wild meadow behind our house, directly on the Soeste, you can enjoy your time out. In the hammock or on the banks of the Soeste you can enjoy doing nothing and nature and, with a bit of luck, watch the animals. For our guests who would rather do something, the surrounding area offers many possibilities. The Thüle animal and leisure park is just around the corner, the Kletterwald Nord (3 km) or the Cloppenburg museum village (17 km) are other worthwhile destinations. If you like it more sporty, you can use the many cycle paths in the area (pit stop route), walk the various Nordic walking routes in the nearby state forest or paddle on the Soeste from Vordersten Thüle to Friesoythe in your own canoe/inflatable boat. The biggest highlight of the region is of course the Thülsfelder Talsperre! Whether walking or cycling along the promenade, swimming and relaxing on one of the beaches, enjoying a meal in one of the restaurants or cafés or hiking through the heath near the sheepfold, the dam offers something for everyone.

Enjoy your time out with us in the Soestetal! :-)

After my father passed away, I suddenly found myself in need of a little break to catch my breath. Melanie responded to my request in a flash and generously made everything possible given the short notice. So I traveled with Waldi, my Dacia Jogger mini-camper, to the vast, wild meadow in the Soestetal valley (which Hermann-Gerd had “tamed” at the last minute just for me). I spent two nights here in a truly wonderful spot, right by the little Soeste River, where you can linger and enjoy a great view. Only on very warm late afternoons, when the sun dances across the water, do armies of mosquitoes take over the water. About 20 meters away, by the camper, I had no problems with them at all. Adjacent to the property runs the “Ostfriesen-Highway,” the B72, which, however, has moderate traffic and doesn’t disturb the idyll any further. In the immediate vicinity (about a 45-minute leisurely hike through the adjacent forest) is the Thülsfelder Dam (where you’ll also find the Kletterwald Nord climbing park), and just a few minutes’ walk away is the Thüle Animal and Leisure Park (which you can’t hear at all from the property). The meadow itself is located at the back of a private property. Electricity was kindly provided to me as needed via a very long extension cord, as was a hammock—though I had brought my own. Melanie and Hermann-Gerd run a small, charming “self-service farm shop” with potatoes, eggs, homemade eggnog with waffles, and other items; there’s even a small freezer stocked with many varieties of Frisian ice cream. Just make sure to take care of your own water supply and “personal needs” yourself! When I had questions or similar concerns, Melanie always responded immediately via WhatsApp—she was friendly and very attentive. I had a truly lovely, peaceful time with the two of them and was able to clear my head a bit. I’m very grateful to both of them for that. I wholeheartedly recommend this “backcountry” spot and will definitely be back. ❤

Melanie and Hermann gave us a super-friendly welcome, and we felt right at home. The place is incredibly beautiful and sits right on the river. Melanie’s little farm shop sells fresh eggs, ice cream, and much more. There are plenty of great places to visit and walk the dog in the surrounding area. We’d love to come back.

Like last time, it was super nice again. Very idyllic and super nice hosts. It was also a real adventure for the children.
