After my father passed away, I suddenly found myself in need of a little break to catch my breath. Melanie responded to my request in a flash and generously made everything possible given the short notice. So I traveled with Waldi, my Dacia Jogger mini-camper, to the vast, wild meadow in the Soestetal valley (which Hermann-Gerd had “tamed” at the last minute just for me). I spent two nights here in a truly wonderful spot, right by the little Soeste River, where you can linger and enjoy a great view. Only on very warm late afternoons, when the sun dances across the water, do armies of mosquitoes take over the water. About 20 meters away, by the camper, I had no problems with them at all. Adjacent to the property runs the “Ostfriesen-Highway,” the B72, which, however, has moderate traffic and doesn’t disturb the idyll any further. In the immediate vicinity (about a 45-minute leisurely hike through the adjacent forest) is the Thülsfelder Dam (where you’ll also find the Kletterwald Nord climbing park), and just a few minutes’ walk away is the Thüle Animal and Leisure Park (which you can’t hear at all from the property). The meadow itself is located at the back of a private property. Electricity was kindly provided to me as needed via a very long extension cord, as was a hammock—though I had brought my own. Melanie and Hermann-Gerd run a small, charming “self-service farm shop” with potatoes, eggs, homemade eggnog with waffles, and other items; there’s even a small freezer stocked with many varieties of Frisian ice cream. Just make sure to take care of your own water supply and “personal needs” yourself! When I had questions or similar concerns, Melanie always responded immediately via WhatsApp—she was friendly and very attentive. I had a truly lovely, peaceful time with the two of them and was able to clear my head a bit. I’m very grateful to both of them for that. I wholeheartedly recommend this “backcountry” spot and will definitely be back. ❤

Melanie and Hermann gave us a super-friendly welcome, and we felt right at home. The place is incredibly beautiful and sits right on the river. Melanie’s little farm shop sells fresh eggs, ice cream, and much more. There are plenty of great places to visit and walk the dog in the surrounding area. We’d love to come back.
Nice, everything's great.
Like last time, it was super nice again. Very idyllic and super nice hosts. It was also a real adventure for the children.
We received a nice and uncomplicated welcome from Hermann-Gerd. T place is really nice, very idyllic with the small stream next door. You can definitely hear the road, but there is very little traffic. We didn't hear the amusement park next door at all. Great starting point for cycling tours through the surrounding area, you can be at the dam in five minutes by bike. We would come again and can recommend the place!
Pure nature on a very large plot in a secluded location with river access to the Soeste - a beach chair rounds off the beautiful ambience. From time to time you can hear the roar of the lions from the nearby amusement park, here and there a tractor chugs along... Nothing that disturbs. Melanie is friendly and helpful, so nothing stands in the way of a relaxing stay.
Everything went really well. We had a very nice weekend with Melanie. She is very nice and helpful. The place is super quiet and pure nature. It was not the last time we were there.
Melanie and her husband are super friendly and accommodating. There is now also a self-service cupboard, which is stocked with lots of love. The driveway to the meadow, where you stand in beautiful solitude, is narrow, but doable with a 12m trailer. The ground is soft, but there is a tractor just in case. You can hear the country road and smell the country life, but neither is disturbing. Even very warm days can be endured under the two trees. There are plenty of restaurants in the area and the countryside is ideal for hiking and cycling. There is an amusement park in the immediate vicinity, but, surprisingly, nothing can be heard of it. All in all, it was a great break and we will definitely be back.
Super nice landlords!
Super nice and helpful hostess, however, the site is unfortunately not suitable for caravans in the rain, because you can easily get stuck (happened to us).
Absolutely quiet and idyllic location, directly on the Soeste. Beautiful. We will come again.
