Nils & Caro

This was my second time staying with Nils & Caro—and it was a deliberate choice. This time I went with a friend and my dog, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The place is designed with an incredible attention to detail and offers exactly what you want when you really want to unwind: peace, nature, and the feeling of being far away from everyday life. Nils & Caro are warm, attentive hosts who make you feel welcome right away. For me, it’s a place I’ll definitely come back to. Highly recommended.

This was our third time staying with Caro and Nils, and it was wonderful once again. We had a great weekend getting away from it all in the great outdoors at the end of the world, spending lots of time at the Herpine (the outdoor forest pool) and the Lindlar Open-Air Museum, and enjoying evenings with barbecues and marshmallows—it was really lovely.

5+ A rustic haven of peace, a reset button for the mind; from a hundred to zero in 10 seconds—a true break. We thoroughly enjoyed our two days here. My son (12) has ADHD and a mild form of autism, and in our fast-paced world, he often just has to keep functioning most of the time. Here, he was able to slow down rapidly in no time at all, becoming part of a place with so much heart, so much nature, and wonderful hosts. Nils and Caro welcomed us so warmly—the whole family is very caring, open, and welcoming. Whether you want some time to yourself, are seeking adventure, trekking & hiking, a break, relaxation, or simply some distance from everyday life—here you’ll find it all in a uniquely personal, rustic, and magical setting. There are many small and large details created with love to see in this place that I don’t want to spoil, which above all inspire children’s hearts, but also make you feel like a child again and slow down your soul within minutes. Warning: If you’re expecting a 5-star hotel, then you’re in the wrong place. Here, heart, soul, slowing down, and freedom are the top priorities. We spent the weekend at Nils and Caro's place. Such a nice family—you really feel at home there! The wood-fired sauna with that view was just amazing.

Everything is just as described. The hosts are super friendly and very helpful. It’s a great place to relax. You can really unwind here. We’d love to come back.

We had a wonderful “getaway at the edge of the world”! The campsite is surrounded by nature, offers a fantastic view, and is absolutely peaceful. There are plenty of places to sit in the spacious garden, and you can enjoy a panoramic outdoor sauna. There’s a private, comfortable bathroom with a toilet and shower—all lovingly designed. The hosts are super nice and always go out of their way to fulfill every guest’s wish. It just doesn’t get any better than this! Too bad the rating scale ends at 5 points; we’d give it more.

Highly recommended. Super easygoing, very friendly hosts, and it’s just so peaceful here. No street noise, just the chirping of birds and the rustling of the wind. Maybe even the mooing of cows... We felt right at home!

Wonderfull place. Private camp spot with lovely view over the fields and Hills of Sauerland. De host welcomes you personally and provides with tips and needs to explore the direct surroundings. Sanitation is proper and clean. Hot shower!! Which you can pay by QR-code. We felt at ease 👍

Just like on my previous visits, it was super relaxing again! Communication was quick and easy, and the location and surroundings are perfect for hiking. And with all the little and big touches (a warm panoramic shower before the sauna, a cold plunge tub, a sink with warm water, …), I’m always happy to come back!

What can I say? After years, I ended up back at Nils and Caro's place by chance, for the third time now and at a new location. Simply beautiful! The nature, the birdsong, watching the birds of prey, the picturesque sunsets, the sauna... Nils and Caro have created a wonderful place that slows you down and shows you how little you actually need to be happy. I liked it so much that I extended my stay right away, which should be enough to show how much I enjoyed it!

I couldn't have wished for a better destination for my first night alone in the camper. The place is fantastic! Hospitality is a top priority, and the proximity to the house makes you feel completely safe and secure.

We didn't come at short notice due to the drastic change in the weather forecast. Contact was only via the app, but very good, always friendly and helpful, which is why we will try again when the weather improves.

A lovely place to stay, to make you feel at home when you are not at home. Nils and Caro welcomed me with open arms and their place is quiet and peaceful. I can not recommend this stay enough. Please come with the kindness that they show their visitors. I will be coming again in the future, no doubt.

We spent a night at the "beginning of the world" and were completely thrilled. We would particularly like to highlight the wonderful sauna - cozy, atmospheric and perfect for relaxing. We really enjoyed our time there. The hosts Nils and Caro were also extremely welcoming. They even invited us for a mulled wine, which made our stay even more personal and enjoyable. Very nice hosts. Great pitch with a wonderful view. Everything was very lovingly set up, with two hanging swings, a fire bowl and a string of lights all around, perfect for relaxing and watching the cows chew. We can highly recommend it and would love to come back when the nights are starry. I think the starry sky is amazing then. 🤗

"Guys, should we go back to the beginning of the world?" "Absolutely, but I'll sleep in the hammock!" "Then I'll sleep in the meadow..." "Well. Then. You pack, I'll book." Standing with Caro and Nils and being allowed to come down has become synonymous with a good, quiet time for us. Always designed exactly the way we want it for the time being. We've now got to the point where Nils lets us stand when he's not at home with the family. Giving trust, getting trust. What else do you get here? (Almost) nothing. And yet everything you need. And that's a very good thing!

What a beautiful place! The cows "under our noses" and the birds flying back and forth...wonderful to come down. Caro and Nils are very relaxed hosts who know what we need as vacationers. No stress with the journey, a nice welcome, a little briefing on what is important, a great hot shower and a clean toilet, a small self-service cupboard with little treats that made our evening more enjoyable. And all this really in the hinterland with lots of peace and quiet! We loved it (despite the rain...) and a return trip to you is not out of the question. Thank you Caro and Nils!

A very nice spot with a great view of the forest and meadow. Especially the sunset from the swing/hanging chairs is not to be missed. I would love to come back!

Super nice pitch in the middle of nature! Communication was quick, clear and totally cordial. The pitch is on gravel and surrounded by meadow, so ideal conditions. There are two wonderful swings with a view over the meadow and small fire pits. The sanitary facilities are clean and well maintained. A clear recommendation!

The pitch is located in an incredibly beautiful spot in the middle of nature and is also very lovingly designed. The hosts are very friendly, courteous and welcoming. An absolutely fantastic place! The view is just great - perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature. We wanted for nothing here. Electricity, water, toilet, shower, even a small cupboard with drinks and snacks for self-service were available. Nils & Caro were incredibly friendly and welcoming. You immediately felt welcome. Our overnight stay at Nils&Caro was super nice! The location right next to the cow pasture is fantastic. Nils was totally helpful and the small bathroom in the barn has everything you need. We would have loved to stay longer and try out the sauna. We will definitely be back :)

We were traveling with our motorhome for the first time and had been looking for a pitch with plenty of peace and quiet in the countryside. And we finally found it with Nils and Caro. They and their children are very caring and helpful hosts. The peace and quiet, the breathtaking view and above all the starry sky and the romantic sunrises and sunsets did us the world of good. Host & guests have somehow grown together - or rather: matured. We got to know each other in the hinterland of a venerable old villa. Caro and Nils have since moved on to an old farm that has been converted and expanded. At first "only" with a simple pitch, then at some point with a sauna and hot tub, then with a bathroom and toilet in the barn, and now there's even a wallbox hanging on the wall. We always enjoy coming back here, it's always nice to be here. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere at the beginning of the world.

Our first time with Hinterland brought us here. I was looking for an idyllic, natural and quiet place, without a lot of frills! I found everything here and more, plus extremely nice and accommodating hosts! Only 45 minutes from home! We will be back!!! If we may :)

An absolute dream place with Caro and Nils I stayed at Caro and Nils' campsite and it was simply fantastic. They are incredibly caring and warm hosts - you immediately notice how much effort and love they have put into the place. The place is wonderfully quiet, perfect for switching off and unwinding. The view is beautiful and everything has been thought of: the kitchen was great, the shower was top-notch and the small self-service cupboard was a great surprise - everything you need is there. The sauna in particular is a blast. A place that can be recommended without reservation. I would come back any time!

And although it really is a lovely place with lots of peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings - including a flower meadow :-) - and great hosts, we always discover new details and a beautiful and loving further development of the place and the entire farm with every stay. We were here for the weekend and would have liked to stay a few more days, but work calls🙂. We can highly recommend the campsite. It's super quiet and very relaxing. Everything was also super clean. A great little bathroom with shower, as well as the sink area in the barn were great. The small "farm supermarket cupboard" as well as the bread roll service are an excellent service, not to forget the incredibly friendly hosts 🙏. So all in all worth more than 5 stars. We will definitely be back 👍

This is now my fourth stay with Caro & Nils. Everything is characterized and inspired by a hearty warmth. Wood & fire bowl? No problem - a small donation to the coffee fund is fine. Dry toilet? At the start. Shower - where should it be? Inside or outside? Cell phone reception? Rudimentary - talk, laugh, philosophize with each other! When the hosts' children come out in the evening and ask if they can make marshmallows by the fire with us, then the world is a little bit more in order again. Stay 5 will come. When bonus booklet? =D

We stayed with our motorhome and dog for 3 nights on Nils and Caro's farm. We found them (and their children) to be very caring hosts. The description "at the beginning of the world" is very appropriate for this place. You really are in the middle of nature, the perfect place to slow down. We felt very comfortable there and can recommend Nils's and Caro's Hinterland location without reservation!

The sunset on the first evening was really great. The next sunsets were rather gray because of the rain, but rain and sunshine simply belong together when camping. But it is quiet here, the two hosts were always friendly and helpful, the shower and toilet were clean - what more could you want? Maybe we'll see more of the beautiful sunsets on our next trip to the beginning of the world.

We were lucky and were able to extend our stay by one night and continue to use this great place. We did a great e-bike tour around the dams and ended the evening relaxing in the panorama sauna with an impressive view. Super lovely hosts and lovingly designed pitch. The toilet and shower in the barn were very clean and spacious. We would love to come back.

Spent a very nice time there. They were even nice enough to offer me (with tent) to stay in their caravan during the storm. I could do without but I was still pleased that they thought about it :). Also nice that you could get firewood there. Oh and it is so nice and quiet there, as well as a beautiful view 😍 We were perfectly happy and would recommend it any time.

Great place with a wonderful view of the valley and the meadow. The possibility of an evening fire in the fire bowl was perfect. We didn't use the sauna ourselves, but it looked great. Toilet and shower rustic in the barn, but clean and wonderfully warm water. Caro and Nils are very, very nice hosts, helpful but at the same time unobtrusive. We would love to come back!

Hinterland Camp can be so beautiful. Caro and Nils' campsite offers plenty of peace and quiet to relax in, a great view - super beautiful sunsets in good weather - and lots of coziness. You can tell how much passion and energy Caro and Nils put into creating this beautiful spot. From there, you can go on great and extensive hikes through the countryside and the small villages. As I said, you have a great view of the landscape from the pitch, the stars and the moon shine in the evening and the birds and the stream some distance away create the perfect background noise. There is really nothing missing and Caro and Nils are really an outstanding "cast" as hosts. We have already booked our next stay. Where do you like to come back to? To a place where you really liked it and felt really comfortable. Thank you!

It was so nice staying with Caro and Nils! We really enjoyed our days with them and their family and felt very welcome. We stood with our camper van right next to the barn with a view of the green valley, a black stork, chickens running around, happy children - it took us out of our everyday lives in no time at all. Beautiful spot in absolute peace and quiet. I was here in winter and was given a warm welcome. Certainly even nicer in summer! There is no cell phone reception, but there is guest access for fast satellite internet and, on request, wheelbarrows of wood for a cozy campfire.

It was really idyllic, uncomplicated and beautiful. A great location for lovely evenings with a campfire. There are ideal playing conditions for children and lots to discover. We would love to come again. :)

We were sooo warmly welcomed and despite drizzle and pre-holiday packing stress by Caro&Nils. The grounds are beautiful, the view really lets the soul dangle. And everywhere there are creatively designed corners where you feel welcome. With the chickens, rabbits and the cat and the cows on the pasture directly in front of our pitch, we always had super company. We will be back soon! ;)

Really super nice hosts with a great property, in the middle of nature. We were provided with everything. Electricity, water, help with "parking ", restaurant recommendations, etc.. In short, "At the home of friends".

What a pleasure - meadow / pitch totally beautiful, with brilliant sunrise "directly to bed", the sunset after a few minutes walk is also admirable. We walked 2 hours through the beautiful nature to the Görtalsperre to take a bath in clear water. People and animal friendly team, it is noticeable that it is a pleasure for Caro and Nils when everyone is comfortable - thank you, we will be back!

Caro has welcomed us very friendly and left us the choice whether we want to stand with a view of the field, or rather secluded behind a hedge. We have chosen the great far view with sunrise and enjoyed the peace. Everything was as described in the ad. For walkers and bikers great paths directly walkable. Thank you for the wonderful time.

Caro, Nils and the kids are super lovely hosts. When we arrived we were very friendly welcomed and also further we have felt very welcome. Here you get everything you need electricity, water, rest and a super sunrise. We will be happy to come back.

Idyllic, dreamlike pitch in a quiet location. Nils and Caro are very warm hosts, everything is very lovingly designed. You feel as a guest directly comfortable with them. At any time a friendly and uncomplicated communication. We would come back at any time, highly recommended!

Have spent a nice weekend here with the kids. We were allowed to stand where we wanted and had the opportunity to sit in the evening at the pond. To grill and make a campfire. It was very nice. The view we could then enjoy a well-kept cards and a meadow. Hosts unfortunately only briefly seen on arrival and spoken mega nice and sweet, but would have liked to chat so still good. In any case, very nice. The driveway has it something in itself but with 14m stretched trozdem good to act. Thank you that there are such people who like to share.

Caro and Nils are very, very friendly and uncomplicated. The contact worked very well and quickly. Everything was fine and for me a successful start into backcountry camping! Very nice spot, quietly located in the hinterland of a chic villa. Fire bowl for the romance available, wood we had ourselves. A fantastically beautiful property. Especially suitable for families with smaller children, Many animals including Lilly the bunny, Fred the rooster and some clever chickens that escape their run and run all over the property. A large screened garden table with fire pit and a small forest with playground equipment. However, the use of the toilet must be clarified from the beginning.

The whole family is super friendly and extremely helpful. The pitches are located in a beautiful garden along which a hiking trail leads. We will definitely come here again.

The roof tent nomads had a really nice weekend with Caro, Nils, their kids, the chickens and the rabbit. It was our first Hinterland experience and the best Einstsnd you can imagine. We are impressed and highly recommend the hosts. A mega weekend!!! Thanks for everything!!!

It was fantastic at Caro and Nils. We had a great, quiet and wind-protected pitch for us on the edge of the large garden (with woods, chickens, etc.). The kids, 5, 7 and 15 were thrilled with the property and our nice hosts, playing with the kids, feeding chickens and rabbits, campfire with baked bread, etc. etc. Perfect short vacation (despite pregnancy week 39 and an August that has not yet realized that it is a summer month). . The family was so nice, attentive, helpful.... Bread roll service, eggs free, etc. Really great! Around it we could make great trips in the area. In addition to a lot of nature, hiking trails, forests, streams, natural swimming pool at the Glörtalsperre, etc. offered us the very direct environment (everything to max. 20 minutes drive) the open-air museum Hagen (only 12 minutes away, necessarily in time to the bakery high, the bread is great, but quickly sold out!), physical experiments in the Phänomenta Lüdenscheid, swimming fun in the "Schwimm in", the Kluterthöhle Ennepetal with guided tours for all ages (for "big ones" very hotly recommended: the X-treme tour!)... U. V. M. But what we liked most was that the hosts were so nice and the accommodation so beautiful! Gladly again, then with six ;-) Best regards D+M+C+L+J(+F)

I did not catch the announced wake up call from the rooster. Only a few meters to the beautiful hiking trails. From there you can start super. I felt very comfortable with my dog.

Nils and Caro were very nice hosts. We felt very comfortable there, electricity and water were of course provided to us.... The location of the pitch is as described. We had a beautiful unobstructed view from the pitch to the surrounding area. Our dog also had a good view of the pasture and so could observe everything there exactly. As a nice attention has Caro gave us eggs from your happychickens.
