Recreation in the high Westerwald

Nister-Möhrendorf is the kind of place where you automatically slow down. Small, quiet, nestled in the typical Westerwald landscape with plenty of woods, open meadows, and wide-open skies. There’s no hustle and bustle here—more of a feeling of being “out in nature” without it feeling isolated.

The campground fits right in. Nothing over-the-top, just a place that blends naturally into its surroundings. The spot under the linden tree is especially lovely. It not only provides shade but also makes the whole area feel cozy—almost like a little gathering spot, even if you’re just sitting there by yourself.

But what really makes the site special is the view. Thanks to its location at about 546 meters, you can look far out over the Hoher Westerwald. On clear days, you can even make out peaks like the Fuchskaute or the Salzburger Kopf. Especially in the morning, when fog still hangs in the valleys, or in the evening as the sun sinks low, it’s quite impressive—without ever feeling overdone.

Something to keep in mind: The spot isn’t completely flat. There’s a slight slope, so wheel chocks are definitely a good idea. But once you’ve got those in place, you’ll be stable and can relax and enjoy the view.

The place itself is quiet and unpretentious. There’s no big program, but that’s exactly what makes it so appealing. You can set off right away, stroll through the woods, hike across the hills, or simply do nothing and let the surroundings wash over you. It’s more of a spot for people looking for exactly that—peace, nature, and a little space in their minds.
