A warm welcome to a very special place—nestled among fields and forests, yet with excellent transportation links—we invite you to our one-of-a-kind lakeside cottage on the Niepkuhlen (an old branch of the Rhine).
The fantastic amenities include, among other things, a private boat dock, a wood-fired hot tub (which can be used as a “cold tub” in the summer), a projector for a home-theater atmosphere, and a wood-burning stove for cozy evenings. Also popular: the gas/electric stove with seven burners.
The property covers approximately 1,000 square meters and, apart from the lakeshore, is completely fenced in and virtually secluded.
The hot tub seats 4–6 adults, and there are no extra costs for its use.
In addition to the bathroom and living room/fireplace room, there are two bedrooms (BR) that sleep six people: A smaller bedroom with a double bed (180x200 cm) and a larger bedroom with a double bed (180x200 cm) plus two single beds (90x200 cm), which can be pushed together to form a double bed if needed. This bedroom features a partition wall/“Spanish wall.” There is also a comfortable pull-out sleeper sofa here that sleeps two people (140x191 cm). In the living room, the very comfortable sleeper sofa (1.10 x 200 cm) can optionally be used as a ninth sleeping spot.
A travel crib and high chair are also available and can be provided upon request.
All windows that open are equipped with fly screens, and with the exception of the panoramic windows in the living room, all are fitted with pleated blinds.
A washer-dryer and a cordless vacuum cleaner are also available.
You can grill over the fire pit using the swivel grill (it’s best to bring your own charcoal for this).
You’ll be located between Krefeld-Traar and the Hülser Berg recreational area, which offers numerous leisure activities.
The center of Traar is about 4 km away.
The accommodation is located in the countryside, but it’s very well connected via a rural road (50 km/h here).
By car, you can reach Krefeld’s city center in about 10 minutes and Düsseldorf’s city center in about 25 minutes, as well as Venlo, just across the border in the Netherlands.
Excursions/activities in the area:
- Egelsberg glider airfield
- Heilmannshof
- Linn Castle
- Hülser Berg with hiking trails and mountain bike routes
- Schroers Pony Farm
- Kliedter Hof
- Bauhaus museums “Haus Lange” and “Haus Esters”
- Elfrather Mühle Golf Club (open even in winter)

- Krefeld Horse Racing Track
- Krefeld Zoo
- Krefeld Wholesale Market
Two life jackets for children—sizes 10–20 kg and 20–30 kg—are available in the boathouse.
We provide the house without bed linens or towels. There are nine single blankets (135x200 cm) and nine pillows (80x80 cm and 40x80 cm) available.
We are happy to provide bed linens for 12 € per person (including VAT) upon request. Towels are available for 5 € per person (including VAT).
There is almost always enough firewood available. One full box is included in the price. If you need additional boxes, we charge €8 each (including VAT).
The rental fee for the projector is €49 including VAT per stay (optional).
For €8 (including VAT) per hour, we’re happy to arrange early check-in or late check-out upon request.
During your visit, we ask that you show appropriate consideration for this special place—both the house and its furnishings, as well as the natural surroundings. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Unfortunately, pets are no longer allowed (applies to bookings starting September 13, 2026; previous bookings remain unchanged and include dogs).
Large events or parties are not permitted due to the adjacent nature reserve and neighbors living in the area (in the event of repeated violations, we will have to exercise our right to refuse entry). Commercial use (e.g., photo shoots) or use for special occasions (e.g., non-religious weddings) is welcome by arrangement.
We are, of course, happy to arrange a personal tour in advance by appointment.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send us a quick message.
Please note: The bungalow was built in 1954 and offers a special rustic charm, but not hotel-style comforts. Our offer is intended neither for those with high expectations nor for party-goers, but rather for lovers of independent travel and our wonderful natural surroundings.
We’re very much looking forward to your visit and to sharing this unique little corner of the world with you.
